Storyscape Journaling

A Path to Healing Through Creativity

The power of artistic expression to heal and transform has shaped my work for decades. My master’s thesis, The Role of Creativity and Imagination in Human Intelligence, explored how creative expression can restore emotional balance disrupted by trauma, attachment loss, and other challenges.

I’ve worked with people facing profound struggles—those affected by Parkinson’s disease, the blind and visually impaired, and children worldwide, including in refugee camps and at-risk youth. Nowhere have I seen the power of expressive arts more clearly than with children, especially those affected by trauma.

This is because, unlike many adults, children often lack the words to explain their pain. But through art, they reveal their inner world—one color, one shape, one story at a time. Storyscape Journaling was born from this understanding: A guided practice that fosters self-discovery, resilience, and connection through storytelling and artistic exploration.

What is STORYSCAPE JOURNALING?

With Storyscape Journaling, I invite you to create a meaningful legacy of connection and self-expression through a collaborative, creative journey. This program helps families build a shared narrative, nurturing emotional bonds, self-identity, and resilience through storytelling and artistic expression.

What Do You Get?

History Building: Create a meaningful narrative in place of unknown or incomplete history.

Supports Self-Identity and Self-Esteem: Encourage self-expression and affirm a sense of individuality and worth.

Strengthens Emotional Bonds: Foster a deeper connection between parent and child through shared storytelling and creative collaboration.

Provide a Creative Outlet: Offer a space for processing thoughts, emotions, and dreams in a safe and expressive way.

Who is Storyscape Journaling for?

This program is for… well, pretty much anyone curious about exploring emotions beyond the usual stories we tell ourselves on repeat.

Expressive Arts Therapy is an intermodal approach, blending poetry, painting, photography, music, movement, etc. to unlock expression in ways words alone often can't. And no—you absolutely don’t need any artistic experience! In fact, the more you feel artistically challenged, the more fun this will be.

How it works

Once you’re enrolled, you’ll receive a simple, curated list of materials to gather —nothing complicated, just what you need to dive in with ease.

STEP three: Show up and play!

Bring your materials, a cup of something you love, maybe even a delicious snack. But most importantly, come with an open mind and open spirit ready to explore, create, and play!

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Not at all! In fact, the less artistic experience you have, the more fun this will be. Storyscape Journaling is about self-expression, not creating a masterpiece. No perfectionism allowed!

  • Once you sign up, you’ll receive a simple, easy-to-gather list of materials—things like paper, paints, scissors, and a few other items. The list will be sent to you well in advance, so you’ll have plenty of time to gather everything before we begin.

  • We’ll meet once a week for eight weeks via Zoom, in an interactive, supportive space. Each session lasts two hours and includes guided exercises, creative exploration, and time for reflection.

  • Life happens! While live participation is ideal and highly encouraged, you will have access to resources and prompts to catch up at your own pace. Recordings are not available in order to respect the privacy of all participants and maintain a safe, intimate space for sharing.

  • No! While most participants are parents, this program is also for anyone in a close, daily caregiving relationship with a child, such as guardians or grandparents.

  • No. This program is designed to help you explore and engage with your child, but the sessions themselves are for parents only. The goal is to empower you to shape the experience in a way that best fits your child's needs—without external guidance, including mine. You'll gain the tools and confidence to make this process your own, and we'll discuss practical ways to integrate what you learn in a way that feels natural and meaningful for both of you.

  • I love getting to know the people who join this journey before we begin. It’s important to me to create a space where everyone feels safe, respected, and aligned with the experience. To ensure this, please sign up for a brief consultation—it's a chance for us to connect, for you to ask any questions that aren’t answered here, and for us both to make sure this is the right fit for you.

  • There’s no pressure to share beyond what feels good to you. This is a judgment-free, supportive space where you set your own boundaries.

  • I hear you! This program is immersive but designed to fit into a busy life. Our weekly sessions are just two hours, and any additional exploration outside of them is completely optional—yet strongly encouraged for deeper exploration. Even small moments of creative play can have a profound impact. That said, if setting aside those two hours feels truly impossible right now, it might not be the best time to join.

  • Emotional healing is complex and cannot be measured in a linear way. While my extensive experience has shown that it’s rare for someone to leave unchanged or without taking something meaningful from the process, the impact varies for each person. Your experience will depend on many factors—your openness, the time and effort you’re able to invest, and where you are on your own journey. This program provides the space, tools, and guidance, but ultimately, the transformation is yours to shape.

  • Yes, couples are welcome! Each person will need their own space and materials to fully engage in the process. There is a minimal added cost for the second participant to account for the additional guidance and support.
